Topic summary

In this presentation, we are pleased to introduce our virtual audiovisual archive E-kinas, which last year was honored with the international FIAT/IFTA award in the nomination “Mastery in Disseminating the Value and Potential of Archives.” Although the Lithuanian Central State Archives first recognized the need for such a platform back in 2012—when the initial pilot version of the website was created—the journey toward today’s E- kinas has been a long and ambitious one.

A major breakthrough came in early 2022, after the Archives completed a nearly €3.5 million project funded by the European Union Structural Funds and the Republic of Lithuania. This milestone enabled the launch of a renewed and significantly expanded version of E-kinas. Since then, the platform has continued to evolve, with substantial improvements implemented each year. Today, E-kinas brings together three integrated archives: film, photography, and audio documents. In this presentation, we will introduce each of these collections, highlight the platform’s key functionalities, and share our future plans—including the development of new features and the integration of AI-based solutions.
