This talk discusses the changing role of audiovisual archives in times of digitization and AI and what this means for public access to archived film footage. What is expected from audiovisual archives? What does the law permit them to do? How should they position themselves between rightholders whose materials they archive and people that want to reuse those materials? Could codes of best practices give any guidance to help audiovisual archives navigate these challenges?
