Abstract / topic summary
In the Walter J. Brown Media Archives at the University of Georgia (UGA), we've been using open-source tools in our AV digitization and preservation workflows for about a decade. These tools have helped us capture better digital signals and save money and time on processing and storage costs. However, in the past year, we have faced increasing challenges in getting these tools to work within the managed enterprise IT environment that we belong to as part of UGA. This presentation will go through how security updates within UGA IT, alongside the strict security architecture of recent Mac OSs, have presented us with new operational friction, and some of the workarounds we've been using to keep our open-source capture workflow up and running.
