Permanent data storage media – and how to be read in 50 or 100 years?

15-10-5

Abstract / topic summary

With the emergence of permanent media for data storage such as Cerabyte, the question how those media can be read in 50 or 100 years becomes as crucial as the medium itself.

We will introduce Cerabyte, as well as the LAST working group (Long-term Access, Storage & Technology) : LAST is aimed at preserving digital information over long periods with the goal of assuring useful interpretation. The Long-term Access, Storage & Technology (LAST) Working Group brings together stakeholders from the storage, preservation, and IT ecosystems to collaboratively develop a resilient, interoperable framework for the long-term preservation of digital information, for the benefit of all communities that provide or use storage for the long term.
