Abstract / topic summary
The Trust in Archives Initiative (TAI) is a community-based coalition dedicated to preserving the authenticity of media collections, encouraging transparency, and ensuring public trust in archives. It grew out of an interest group co-convened by the Archival Producers Alliance and the Association of Moving Image Archivists in 2025 to address the challenges presented by generative AI and synthetic media, and has since expanded to include a number of coalition partners. TAI volunteers work together to develop tools and resources that address the practical needs of archivists and archival producers in the age of generative AI.
The Tiered Community Recommendations for Content Provenance and Authenticity (TCR4CAP) outlines a framework of progressive criteria for evaluating and documenting content authenticity and provenance (CAP), especially for collections content impacted by artificial intelligence (AI). Recently published by the FADGI Audio-Visual Working Group, it was developed by a collaborative group with representatives from a cross section of US federal agencies and community collaborators, including a representative from TAI.
In this presentation, we will share TAI’s work and the resources that we have developed to date. Then, on behalf of the TCR4CAP working group, we will discuss the evaluation criteria and actions contained in the Tiered Community Recommendations.
